Untether your cloudBit

One of the downsides of the cloudBit is that it needs to be hooked up to USB power (typically a wall outlet, or something else stationary). Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to use the cloudBit to control a project that is mobile? Well, with the help of the wireless bits, you can!

One of my students came up with a great solution to this problem in a winter IoT class I taught, and I thought it was worth sharing.

The project is here: cloudBit Untethered!

And here’s a direct link to the video tutorial:

You know I love this untethered cloudBit stuff… ! If you give the YouTube link its own line, you will see the whole video show up in the preview.

Thanks for showing this tutorial, it was helpful.

You can also do what I did. I power the CloudBit via my USB Power Bank. You can get them in-store at Target for just $5. They’re made by Gems. Basically, it’s like this: http://www.target.com/p/charge-it-up-power-bank-red/-/A-16567029#prodSlot=medium_1_6&term=power+bank

Works great!
