Q: What does it mean to be a littleBits School Chapter?
Each School Chapter is led by an educator within a school. This educator should have access to a space where they can host workshops. This volunteer represents his/her school.
As the Chapter Leader, you will be in charge of:
— Serving as the main point of contact.
— Securing a space to host your workshops (likely a classroom).
— Documenting and uploading projects from your classroom to your Chapter page. Your Chapter page is your HQ for showing off your student’s work all in one place.
Q: Does entering the School Chapter Program mean we exclusively have to use littleBits?
Not at all. As a matter of fact we want you to run whatever programming you usually do. We just ask that you include littleBits consistently as a tool in your workshops. It works well alongside arts & crafts materials, laser cutting and 3D printing.
Q: Do I have to pay for entering the program?
Q: Can there be co-leaders?
We require one point of contact for each Chapter who serves as the face of that school. Behind the scenes, you’re free to organize your team as you see fit, but only one person can be the official leader. If during the course of the year you decide to switch leaders that is most definitely possible.
Q: What if I’m not a school?
If you’re part of an organization that’s not a formal school setting, you can apply to become a regular Global Chapter.
Q: Do you donate product to potential Chapter leaders who cannot afford it?
Unfortunately, not at this time. We’ll be releasing a guide to help educators write grants for littleBits and have seen a lot of success by educator’s who use Donors Choose.
Q: What type of support do we provide?
-Free creative and tech consultation! This means training, event guides and monthly ideas for programming.
-Swag and access to product sneak peeks.
-Promotion of your programs through our blog, social and newsletter. We want to highlight projects from around the world.
-A global support network of other organizations who will share knowledge and expertise.
Q: What is the commitment that you require?
Each chapter is expected to…
-Commit to a school year and host at least five workshops around littleBits monthly design challenges. Workshops can be held whatever day/time is more convenient for you.
-Document and upload your student’s projects to your Chapter homepage.
-Say hello in the forums and meet other educators.
-Participate in our evaluation process. That means we will be doing reviews along the journey to make sure you feel supported and successful as a School Chapter.
-Attend a monthly hour-long call (the last Wednesday of every month @ 12pm EST), where you will get to speak with other Chapter leaders, share knowledge and build connections. (Optional, given you may be in class!)
Q: Do I have to use the littleBits website?
It’s important for us to see what’s coming out of your classroom!
Q: What is the application process like?
First you will need to submit a form over here. Make sure to click School Chapter and fill it out in as much detail as possible. Once we review your application we will get back to you to schedule a video call. You should expect us to get back to you within 10 days of the day you apply.
Q: What do School Chapter events look like?
We have a Chapter Flickr page, highlighting Chapter events from around the world: https://www.flickr.com/photos/littlebitsglobalchapters . When you document your events (and you have permission to use the photos), please email them to Nick (firstname.lastname@example.org) and we’ll make sure to get them up on the site.
