I'm going to propose an idea that probabily won't happen but it is doable
Virtualize the entire Littlebits set in Minecraft.
So far i haven't done much but I designed a few 2D textures that could be converted to 3D when it's in production.
Bits that should not be in the mod are Mechanical Bits (Servo, Fan, Motor), Cloud bit (replace with remade cloud gateway), MakeyMakey, Power Bits (Replace with Redstone Power &/or Power Supply) and Bend Sensor for Various reasons.
Wire bits would connect to "wire" which would allow the signal to be transported in a wire that didn't lose signal strength (why Redstone can't be used).
The temperature sensor would be replaced with a biome sensor that emits a signal based on the biome it is in, weather (pun intended) it's raining or not, the time of day and altitude.
A rain sensor could be added which sends an output if it's raining (75% if it's raining 100% if it's a Thunderstorm)
A bit to redstone converter could be added allowing compatibility between the platforms.
Bits that require programming or adjustments could have a GUI where it there can be numerical and a Rotating dimmer.
I would love to help with the development of the project (I have a basic knowledge of Java) and design textures for it.
If anyone from Littlebits reads this could you leave your feedback it could help.
PS:this was written in a rush feel free to correct my sentence structure.
EDIT: here are the 2D textures I made. View them in a photo editor/Pixel editor to view them
